Federation Priorities

 

The Federation is well positioned to represent the views of career guidance practitioners and to influence policy and decision makers in guidance.  It potentially represents memberships of over 10,000 working in schools, higher and further educational institutions, adult guidance, Careers England, Careers Scotland, Northern Ireland Careers Service, Connexions Service in England, the outplacement industry, private career management organisations, executive career coaching and the many freelancers in the private sector.

Amongst its achievements:

  • Constructing credibility and developing a vocabulary that encompasses every strand of careers work.
  • Initiating an inclusive conversation across the career guidance sector.
  • Raising the profile of the work at conferences and career-related events throughout the UK.
  • Working to remove the barriers of sovereignty, which may have prevented collaboration in the past.
  • The exploration and debate around the potential for chartered status for practitioners.
  • Distilling a set of common ethical principles.
  • Co-planner of the prestigious Cutting Edge Conferences.
  • Active links (and contribution) with the International Guidance community via IAEVG and other constituent members.
  • A representative on the Editorial Board of the British Journal of Guidance and Counselling.
  • Views are represented on the Board of the Guidance Council.
  • Chair invited to attend / speak at events to relay vision for the future.
  • References given and articles in professional periodicals.
  • Forming alliances with like organizations in Canada and potentially America and Australia.
