There is no doubt that we hope to initiate healthy debate and discussion amid career and guidance practitioners which will ultimately lead to a developing and coherent community. We aspire to collaborate, cooperate and communicate and as a result, raise the profile of our work. We also hope to grow our conversation with like-minded organisations elsewhere in the world.

So, please feel free to browse our refreshed image and let us have your feedback on what you want to see from the Federation of Professional Associations in Guidance. Without your input we cannot grow. So pass on our new website address, spread the word and grow our sense of community.

Aims and Purpose

From its inauguration in 2000 the Federation has focused upon the following Vision and Purpose:

The Federation’s vision is to gain recognition of the value of guidance professionals in securing the nation’s well being.

 Its purpose is to influence the advances in quality assurance in the arena of guidance linked to lifelong learning and work in particular by:

  • Complementing the work of The Guidance Council, which represents the work of professionals and stakeholders – on behalf of clients, FedPAG represents matters affecting practitioners. In combination there is a symbiosis of a co-ordinated, cross-sector community.
  • Providing a vital networking channel for a diverse and fragmented community, providing an interface that does not presently occur right across the guidance sector.
  • Raising common understanding of the work of constituent members and exchanging information;
  • Providing a public voice for the expression of common interests and the furtherance of guidance;
  • Providing a practitioner voice for joint lobbying when required;
  • Providing a forum for sharing research findings and co-ordinating communication with other bodies conducting research in guidance.
  • Galvanising career professionals in the UK by generating greater collaboration, cooperation and cohesion across the many sectors involved in careers work.

In summary ‘the Federation seeks to protect and enhance the image of the guidance profession, to share good practice nationally and internationally, and to recognise emerging trends through the sharing of information. The Federation represents the voice of professionals working in all spheres of career guidance.’  We want to have a better conversation.
